Give Where You Live
There are a lot of options when it comes to giving, but sometimes you just don’t know how to give, who to give to, or what your options are.
Nikau Foundation, Wellington’s donor driven community foundation makes giving easy, but with a big impact. They are driven by helping out not only charities and community organisations, but they also help individuals make a difference. By managing trusts & funds, personal legacies, and grants, Nikau Foundation provides a vehicle for people to leave a gift to their local community – covering the whole of the Wellington Region up to Otaki and including the Wairarapa.
The giving that just keeps giving
As part of an international movement that includes 1,000 organisations, across 46 countries, the movement is all about ensuring local organisations and charities will have ongoing continuous support. Funds are pooled, and invested in perpetuity, with the profits then donated to the respective charities as selected by each donor.
Nikau Foundation is one of those 16 organisations in New Zealand. They never spend/invest the capital – only the interest from each investment. This means that there is always money being generated for these organisations and causes.
From $1 to $1M, every level of donating has a positive impact through the accumulative nature of the how the ‘giving-funds’ are raised. Nikau Foundation covers various funds in very different areas. Whether you want to give to a very particular fund such as a local organisation, or give to a general area of interest such as sports, you have the option to choose who is to benefit from your giving.
Nikau Foundation advocates for people to ‘give where they live’. Giving back to your community is such as special thing as you can see first-hand the difference your contribution has.

More than giving
Whether you want to make regular donations to a fund, leave part of your estate to a cause or charity, or set up your own named fund – they work with you to find what best fits your requests, values and interests.
As advocates for helping our local communities, Nikau also offers a free advisory service to assist individuals in understanding their options to give back.
They also recognise that donating money doesn’t suit everyone, and to promote to ‘give where you live’, Nikau Foundation will connect you with organisations or charities if you’re interested in getting involved through ‘in-kind’ giving or volunteering.
